The Cruise World
Let's talk all things cruises! If you're new to cruising, there are probably a lot of questions you have! from cabin location, to the cruise jargon, I have put together some information to help new cruises, and for experienced cruisers to enjoy also!
Cruise Jargon!
If you're looking to book a cruise, then you need to know the below words and acronyms! This will help you choose the best cabin and know where you are onboard so there won't be any surprises!
Port Side
This means the left side of the ship. Need to remember this, just remember port and left are both 4 letter words! Also all port cabins are even-numbers.
Starboard
This is the right side of the ship!
Aft
This is the back of the ship! So if someone says "at the aft of the ship", just think it's at the back!
Forward
Yes you guessed it, this is the front of the ship!
Muster Drill
This is the safety drill EVERY person onboard must attend. You will go to your muster station, which is indicated on your cruise card and cabin door, in the unlikely event of an emergency.
Tender
This is a small boat that can hold about 150 people. These boats can take guests ashore to a port that may not have the capacity to allow ships to dock alongside the port. This is rare, but many ports have them!
Steward
These are the housekeeping staff who assist with queries surrounding your cabin, and who service your cabin daily! They do an amazing job and work so hard!
OBS/OBC
Onboard Spend/ Onboard Credit- Many cruise lines offer this benefit when booking, therefore you may be offered some money to use to spend onboard your cruise!
Cruise Cabins
There are so many different cabins to choose from when booking a cruise! I would recommend doing your research before booking, to make sure you are happy with what you have booked.

The different cabins to choose from are Insides, Oceanviews, Balconies and Suites.

Inside Cabin- These are the most affordable cabins to book, so if you want to cruise on a budget, an inside cabin is the way to go. They have no windows or outside space, but are perfect for a good night's sleep!

Oceanview Cabin- These cabins have a window for that outside lighting to come in! The window can be either a full-length window, or a porthole circular window.

Balcony Cabins- These cabins have outside space in the form of a balcony! The balcony can fit 2 chairs and a small table, so perfect for some sunbathing or some fresh air.

Suite- These are the most expensive cabins on a cruise, with some suites being across 2 decks. They typically have more than one bedroom, a lounge area, a dining table, a full-sized bathroom, a walk-in wardrobe and other amenities such as a butler! As you can imagine, they are very high in price, but are so worth it! Take a look at my YouTube vlogs from my 2 previous cruises, as i was lucky enough to stay in a suite both times!

There are also sub-cabin grades within the above, such as a deluxe balcony or obstructed view cabin. These depend on the ship and cruise line.
